“Bringing our country together”

…A complete crock of nonsense.

I hate it when politicians talk about “bringing our country together.”  It would certainly be nice if citizens were all essentially on the same page but, in a time when the very system of government is being called into question, there isn’t a lot of room for compromise.

There is little that a political leader can do that will actually unify contending values.  To do so assumes that those of us on the right can be okay with mass-censorship and the relinquishing of personal freedoms to an unelected global governance and having children raised by the indoctrination du jour. It assumes that those on the left can become satisfied with traditional values and the standards of a constitutional order that stands in the way of their “revolutionary” fervor.

The closest that a political leader can come to uniting American citizens (aside from confronting or concocting an external threat) is to return to healthy economic conditions.  In a vibrant economy, where people’s personal needs are satisfied, there is little concern for political matters.  If one is economically successful and relatively content with life, there is little motivation for “hate” or calls for dramatic change.

Directing the country’s resources to foreign invaders (“migrants”) and allowing violence to be unleashed upon law-abiding citizens is certainly no way to settle the discontent in half of society.

In good times, the frustrated “revolutionary” nutcases have little impact beyond faculty lounges and avant-guard cafes.  Let them stew in their angst. Their issues with daddy are of little concern for the sane among us.

It’s not unreasonable that the more conservative among us want to return to some sense of stability and prosperity.

Saying “we are divided” under current conditions is like saying the mugger and their victim are “divided.”

Want to “bring us together?”  Put your communist revolution back in its dirty bottle and let decent sane people pursue happiness unmolested by state-sanctioned tyranny and the bizarre impositions of the truly hateful.
